Team VELO SportZ is a junior development programme designed to encourage, assist and train, up and coming cyclists within Australia. VELO SportZ will help the junior cyclists in many area’s, apart from their cycling. This programme is designed so that they maintain their focus on school work as well as train hard for up coming events.

VELO SportZ will strive to have as many of our team riders to be identified by the state based Academies and ensure that they are given every opportunity to compete for Australian. Team VELO SportZ is all about a community structure and the parents of each child within the team is also an integral part of the team. Team VELO SportZ is also about everyone having FUN, FUN, FUN!

Eight Team Members have been selected into the Cycling NSW / NSWIS Emerging Athlete Programme. This programme is designed to give young cycles the opportunity to perform to the best of their ability and compete for Australia at a later stage.

On top of the Emerging Athlete Programme six riders have also bee selected to compete for NSW at the 2007 Australian Junior Track Championships. Scott Harding, Tirian McManus, Stephen Lewis, Sinead Cosgrove, Jessica Griffiths and Angus Tobin have all been selected to represent NSW.

Jackson Pratt
(NSWIS Emerging Athlete)

My name is Jackson Pratt I live on the Central Coast and a member of the Central Coast Cycling Club. I started cycling 3 years ago when I was a first year U15. I’m interested in road riding. My main goal this year is to go well at Canberra, nationals and state championships.

In track racing I have won two bronze medals in the U17 team sprint at states, a bronze medal in the U15 country sprint derby and a bronze medal in the U17 sprint derby. In numerous track opens I have either won or placed in events.

In other events I have won the All Schools Triathlon relay in 2005 and 2006. In 2007 I got CHS gold, which placed my team, 3rd over all.

In December 2006 I was invited to join the NSWIS/EAP. For this I have attended camps that are geared towards preparing athletes for state and Australian representation.
Anthony “AJ” Scott
(NSWIS Emerging Athlete)

Anthony Scott the young St George Cyclist hasn't quite decided which discipline to specialise in at this stage. “AJ” does prefer road to track as he feels at home on the road.

AJ Trains approximately 500 kilometres a week with the likes of Steve Wooldridge and Graeme Brown when they are in town.

AJ is the younger brother of Warren Scott who is a former Australian Champion, Australian Recorder holder and a competitor of the Youth Olympics.

AJ does well at school and will continue to year twelve although not decided on what he wants to do. Post high school he would quite obviously like to eventually race the tour de France which is his goal and he is taking steps to achieve.
Brodie Pearse
(NSWIS Emerging Athlete)

Brodie Pearse is a young gun from the Wagga Wagga Cycling Club. Brodie is a very experienced rider on both the raod and track and is always featuring in the results at major events and at State Championships.

Brodie would like to take his riding as far as he can and is an integral part of the VELO SportZ Team. Brodie trains very hard all year round in Wagga where it does get very cold during the winter months.

Angus Tobin
(NSWIS Emerging Athlete and NSW State Team Member)

I am 14 turning 15 in June, and have been racing since the age of 9 on both road and track. I am currently in the NSWIS Emerging Athlete Programme and have finally started to develop, making the state team this year to go to nationals next month.

During the 6 years I've been riding I have learned to love the sport and hope to ride in the Tour de France and win some 1 day classics in a pro team someday. Until then my short term goals are to make the state teams in under 17's, ride the Junior road worlds in U19's and in doing so make NSWIS and then hopefully make the AIS.

School work is going well. I'm in all the extended classes in year 9 at James Sheahan Catholic High School at Orange. Teachers have been OK and are letting me ride this coming winter season during school time on Thursday's. This will help with the road km for training this year.

Sinead Cosgrove
(NSWIS Emerging Athlete and NSW State Team Member)

Sinead Cosgrove is one of the Under 17 women in Team VELO SportZ and races on both Road and Track. Sinead is a member of Goulburn Cycling Club and regularly travels to all major road and track events in NSW.

We are looking forward to seeing Jessica go places with her cycling in years to come.
